William L. Woodward

William L. (Bill) Woodward passed away November 9, 2022, after a relatively brief yet intense battle with gastric cancer. Bill was born on May 20, 1943, in Logan, UT to Murray and Ella Mae Woodward. He spent the first ten years of his life in Grants Pass, OR, then moved with his family to Carmichael, CA, where he was a proud graduate of La Sierra High School (class of 1961).
After two years in the Army, where he received the Presidential Service Badge and certificate, he returned home and enrolled in college. He earned a BS in Accounting from what was then Sacramento State College, and later an MPA from Golden Gate University. Bill’s career was with the State of California as an auditor, program manager and audit manager serving at the Board of Equalization and the departments of Finance and Social Services. He was a retired CPA and earned the Certified Government Financial Manager designation from the Association of Governmental Accountants.
During his youth, Bill was a Boy Scout, ultimately achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He returned as a volunteer for the Golden Empire Council when his son started Cub Scouts. Bill felt strongly about the Boy Scout program and enjoyed being a mentor to both youth and adult Scouters. Bill was also a member of Bicentennial Daylight Lodge #830, F&AM; Sacramento Valley Scottish Rite; and Ben Ali Shrine (Keystone Kop Patrol, retired).
Bill is survived by Nancy, his wife of 40 years; son Robert (Catrina); brothers David (Kate), John (Marti), and Ron (Jane); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 pm on Wednesday, November 30 at Sierra View Funeral Chapel, 6201 Fair Oaks Boulevard, Carmichael. Private inurnment will be at East Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
