Vagg, William Roderick, Jr. March 23, 1928 - October 23, 2015 Bill was born in Oakland, CA to Rod & Mary Vagg where Bill and his brother Jerry spent their early years until the family moved to Sacramento in 1942. After many years in Sacramento he then retired to Lake of the Pines in Auburn, CA. Following graduation from Grant High School, he joined the US Navy serving on the USS Grimes during WWII. He was married to Barbara Edwards for 36 years and they had three children, Richard (Valerie), David and Kathy Layton. Upon retirement from McClellan AFB after 25 years where he was recognized for his work in the Electronics & Armament Control Branch of the USAF, he went on to become a general contractor, remodeling and building residential homes. While at Lake of the Pines he was President of the Board and acting General Manager for a term. He enjoyed many hobbies including woodworking, stained glass, and genealogy as well as playing golf while continuing to build homes at Lake of the Pines. He then married Lorna Wood. Good times were shared with many LOP friends after retirement, especially golfing and traveling (RVing). Love of family was Bill's greatest happiness. He was dearly loved by his grandchildren Brian (Shelby), Kelly (Bob), Candace (Brian), Christine (Brian), Carl (Karen), Nadia (Joe), Daniel, and step-grandchildren Dayne and Tavia. Great grandchildren are Joe, Molly, Jordan, Alyssa, Jack, William & Gwyneth. Family also included step-son Dennis Wood (Therese), niece DeDe Lind (David), nephew Jeff Vagg (Kathy, daughter Pamela), sister-in-law Ellen and daughters-in-law Connie and Kathy. Bill also had many life-long close friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Carmichael Elks Lodge located at 5631 Cypress Ave Carmichael, CA. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date at Monterey City Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all who were part of Bill's life and made it special.
