William “Bill” Mark Tanner
June 16, 1954 – August 29, 2024
Bill went to be with the Lord after a short battle with cancer on August 29, 2024 with his family and
pastor by his side. Bill was born in 1954 in Lexington, Kentucky to James Oroville Tanner and Anna
Juanita May. He spent his childhood in Lexington before joining the Army for ten years. Following his
military service Bill lived and worked in 48 states while he made his way to California, where he finally
settled down.
Bill met the love of his life, Debbie, in 1996. They made a life together in Orangevale with their three
children, Daniel, Tammy, and Laurie. Bill enjoyed golf, baseball, and football, but what he loved most
was the time he spent with his friends and family. Bill loved being Papo to his grandkids and took every
chance he had to spend time with them.
Above all, Bill’s life was defined by loving God and serving others. Bill began his ministry for Christ as a
youth leader. Later in his life, he founded a ministry to serve the elderly in Folsom and Orangevale
where he dedicated his time to providing weekly services and fellowship opportunities for the elderly in
multiple care homes. He also served as a Chaplain at his church. In whatever activity Bill was doing, he
never met a stranger and cherished each opportunity he had to show God’s love to others.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his children Daniel, Tammy, and Laurie (Doug); his brother, Jim; his
grandchildren, Lucas, Audriana, Liam, Jackson, and Mackenzie; and his in laws, Judy, Raulin, Linda, Linda
and Rick. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, his two brothers, Danny and Bob, and his
sister in law, Linda.
As Bill prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, the family asks that you do the same - go
out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you. If you feel so moved,
reach out and tell us about it - or another joyful time shared with Bill!
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on September 28, 2024 at Redeemer Covenant Church
located at 6800 Main Ave in Orangevale.
It was Bill’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Reedemer
Covenant Church.
