William Landers Johnston

William L. Johnston, 88, of Sacramento, CA passed away peacefully onDecember21 after a very short illness.He spent the last years of his lifehappy and loved at the Rose Garden Care Home in Sacramento. He is preceded in death by his brother, Albert (2009), his parents Margaret and William Roland Johnston , his first wife, Andrea L Lloyd (2011) and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by 4 children (by his first wife Andrea), 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Julie Ann Guyton, daughter,grandchildren: Andrea,, Carissa and Nicole, and great grandchildren Liam and Capri. KristiLee Brackett, daughter, (John), grandchildren:Jacob, Justin and Karina Jenni Lynn Lloyd, daughter, grandchildren: Kylee, Braydon, and Kassidy William (Bill) Toland Johnston, Son (Joann), grandchildren Cydney and AJ. He is also survived by his second wife, Marianne Johnston Crosby and by his brother, John G. (Jack) Johnston William "Bill" Johnston led a full lifein his 88 years. He graduated from Stanford with a Master's degree in engineering.Right after graduation he joined the Air Force and dischargeda Captain.He was hired immediatelyby Lockheed Missilesand Space Co now known as Lockheed Martin,in Sunnyvale Ca, where he had an illustrious career as an Engineer and Manager. He helped design and manufacturethe tiles on the Space Shuttle that kept the excessive heat from re-entry into earth’s atmosphere. He was also very involved with the-manufacturing of theHubble SpaceTelescope. He was sentto Austin, Tx in 1982 to opena new Lockheed facility.After. completion of this project,Bill returned to Sunnyvale, CA, where he retired in 1992, after more than 30 years. He starteda perfectretirement job to keep him busy, at Lava Cap Winery in Placerville, CA. He went from working in the tasting room, to local sales, to developing the position of National Sales Director.. His entire life was centered around living healthy andworking out at the gym.He worked hard during the week, weekends were spent either camping locally or taking day trips. No matter what he did, he always found a small bar or winery with jazz or country music being played. He would have a glass of white wine with ice cubes.He will surely be missed. His ashes will be laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon CA with full military honors. Due to Covid, this will be a private ceremony. Due to Covid, a celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
