Werner Otto Schink Jr.

Werner Otto Schink, Jr., of Sacramento, CA, died on Wednesday May 16th, 2018 after a fight with cancer. He was born November 15, 1945 to Werner Otto Schink and Katherine Piech Schink in Johnson City, NY. Werner is survived by his wife Maria Elena Schink, his sister Paula Funkhouser of Reno, his daughter Sonia (Tim) Eliseo, his son Louis Schink, his grandson Erwin Eliseo, nieces and nephews who called him “Unc”, step children Nancy Falistocco, Karen (Jay) Wedsted, and Alejandro Falistocco, and step grandchildren Jessica, Alexandria, Lucas, and Kiana. Werner is predeceased by his parents and his sister Elise Lowe. Werner came west in 1968, and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, and the University of California, Davis. Werner worked as the Chief of Research for the California Department of Social Services during welfare reform, and prior to that, Chief Economist of the California Employment Development Department. After retirement from the state, he focused his work on community research, and created his own nonprofit, Community and Local Neighborhood Research, which provided socio-economic research support to non-profit and governmental organizations in low income neighborhoods in California. He was co-founder and CEO of Latino Futures Research, a culmination of 35 years of Latino statistical analysis. He was also a published author. A unique soul, Werner was brilliant, wise, humble, kind, and loving, and enjoyed running, meditating, buddhism, vegetarianism, VW Vanagons, and post-it notes. He will be greatly missed, and was a mentor to many. A celebration of life will be heldSaturday June 9th, 2018, at 2:00pmat Kobasic’s Hall, 5324 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822. All are welcome.
