Virginia was a loving wife of 51 Years to Robert Weir, who passed away in 1992. She will be greatly missed by her 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 15 Great-grandchildren. Virginia was active with the Women's Fellowship and Rummage Sale at the Congregational Church in San Mateo. She was always an encouragement to friends and family. Loving unconditionally was a gift she always had to give. Virginia was born on the Matthiessen Farm in Sand Springs, Iowa in 1920, and at the age of two she moved to Monticello where she attended schools and St. Matthew Lutheran Church. After graduation from high school in 1937, she attended the Paris Academy in Cedar Rapids, IA where she met her husband Robert. They were married July 6 1940 and lived in Cedar Rapids until 1958. Five of their children, Bill, Pam, Pat, Mary and Peggy, were born at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. In April of 1958, Bob was transferred to San Mateo, California, where Barbara was born at Mills Memorial Hospital, San Mateo in Feb. of 1959. They lived there ever since. Every summer they vacationed at Lake Okaboji where they had many wonderful times and reunions with family and friends. By the time the children were almost adults, and old enough to ""bug Mom"", Virginias mother, Anne Matthiessen, took over and Virginia and Bob were able to travel together. Virginia flew over and met Bob in Paris and they did the tourist things including going to a resort area to celebrate their anniversary. From Paris they had a stop in Tel-Aviv, then New Delhi, and on to Bangkok. Bob was with customers so she' would take off on tour buses. She even got to see the King of Thailand, then on to Singapore, Sidney, Melbourne, Auckland, Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines. What a time they had. Their home was an international house. Customers from overseas were interested in seeing an American home and it was fun having them. One time they were having a new roof put on the house and they had guests from 5 different countries. Virginia said, ""The men were so impressed at being entertained with no roof that they helped set tables and serve. Therefore, when we travelled to their countries, we were treated like royalty everywhere we went. And oh yes, they were invited into their homes. When Bob retired, they travelled about the United States until Bobs health failed and passed away on February 12, 1992. There was a lot of wonderful visiting with her children and grandchildren during those years following. During the last 11 years she resided in Granite Bay, California near her children. She will be greatly missed by her six children and their families.
