Vicenta San Nicolas Camacho Dec. 22, 1922- March 25, 2017 Vicenta San Nicolas Camacho, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Folsom, CA. on March 25, 2017 surrounded by family. Vicenta was the beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and matriarch of four generations of Camachos in the U.S., with her 10 children, 56 grandchildren-great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. Vicenta was born of Chamorro heritage in Hagatna, Guam on Dec. 22, 1922. As a teen, Vicenta survived the Japanese occupation of Guam during WWII. In 1947, Vicenta married Atanacio Rivera Camacho, a young Chamorro and member of the U.S. Navy. Atanacio would transfer "stateside" with a pregnant Vicenta to the Bay Area to raise their family. Vicenta gave birth to all 10 of their children at Oaknoll Hospital in Oakland. They lived in Bay Area through the 50s-70s. After Atanacio passed away in 1970, Vicenta remained to raise their children until they left for college, military service or to start their families. Vicenta earned two Associate of Arts degrees at Laney College. he social movements of the 70’s & 80’s heavily influenced this once-naive island girl, as she blended her core Catholic values with a passion for social justice. Vicenta later moved to Folsom in 2013. Vicenta is survived by her children, Mary, Anthony, Vincent, Barbara, Josephine, Charles, Elizabeth, John (predeceased), George & Raymond. She is also survived by her brothers, Silvino, Jose and Alejandro San Nicolas and is preceded in death by husband Atanacio Rivera Camacho, son John, brothers, Ramon, Luis and parents, Maria Mariano and Antonio Dydasco San Nicolas and grandchildren "Nacho" Camacho Uno and Carlos Camacho Jr. Vicenta was the link to our family roots in Guam and the U.S. Vicenta had a wonderful personality and was a positive influence to family. She taught us to be respectful and compassionate to others. Vicenta enjoyed sharing stories of her life in Guam and Chamorro traditions which laid the foundation of our family’s core values. A Catholic Mass & Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 3 pmat the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3200 Harbor Street, Pittsburg, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Vicenta San Nicolas Camacho Memorial Fund, which will perpetuate her legacy of love and respect for human dignity.
