Thomas Orlando Hurst, IV, also known to some as “Oscar,” passed away on July 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of humility and humor. Born in Lee's Summit, Missouri, in 1935, Tom graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1952. He attended George Washington University, was a fraternity brother in Sigma Chi, worked as an intern at the US Senate, served as a naval aviator (a COD pilot) during the Cold War, finished college on the GI Bill in California, graduated from Boalt Hall (the Law School at UC Berkeley), and established a successful solo law practice of 30 years in San Jose, California, collaborating closely with fellow lawyers of principle.
Tom was a man of many interests and a life-long learner. He loved cheering for the 49ers and Chiefs, writing and collecting short stories and delightful poems, and exploring genealogy and history; however, his greatest joy, was connecting with people. He was known for his warmth, humor, and ability to make others feel special. He will be deeply missed by his long-time partner Dolores Garcia, his daughter Melinda Hurst Dubroff, his granddaughter Kendall Anne Dubroff, and all who knew him.
