Born on March 20, 1950 in Sacramento, CA. Stephen passed away peacefully at home with his brother Scott by his side after bravely battling Cancer. Stephen was a “Class of 68” graduate of Mira Loma High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served our country during the Vietnam War 1968 – 1971. After his service in the Marines, he attended and graduated from American River College. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement after 33 years of employment. Stephen excelled in many sports including achieving a Black Belt in Karate. He enjoyed Racquetball, Golf, Softball, Bicycling, Suba Diving, long walks by the American River and trips to Santa Cruz and Monterey, CA. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed novels written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Stephen was quite the prankster and will be remembered by family and friends for his unique sense of humor! He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother: Scott Horrie, two sisters: Jennifer Potter and Wendy Carlson, three nephews: Daniel Potter, Lionel Ducote and Travis Carlson, great nephew: Kaiden Potter. Per Stephen’s wishes, he will be cremated and no memorial service will be held. A “Night of Remembrance” is scheduled for family and friends Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Mark and Monica’s Family Pizza, 4751 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael, CA 95608. 5:00pm to 10:00pm. A “Celebration of Life” gathering for family and friends will take place in Santa Cruz, CA. (Actual Date: TBD) Donations in Stephen’s name can be made to his favorite charity ASPCA atASPCA.ORG.
