Stephen's early years were marked by an adventurous spirit that led him from Springfield, MO to Springfield, IL before finding his stride as a standout basketball player at Crossland High School in Temple Hills, MD. It was during his high school years that he also achieved the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his dedication to service and leadership.
Stephen enlisted in the United States Air Force after a brief semester at Salisbury State Teachers College. He served his country with honor and distinction during the Vietnam War before being stationed at Mather AFB in Rancho Cordova, CA.
It was during this time that he crossed paths with the love of his life, Rita, who he married in 1974.
With their two kids Monica and Stephen Jr., they went with the Air Force to RAF Chicksands in Bedfordshire, England for 4 years, followed up with a short stint in Little Rock, AR.
After an impressive 21-year career, Stephen retired from the USAF and returned with his family to Rancho Cordova, CA. He transitioned to a new chapter of his life as a dedicated mailman in the United States Postal Service, where he faithfully served for 20 years. During his time as a mailman Stephen used the G.I. Bill to finish his B.A. in Management at St Mary’s College of California.
