Sarah Lynn Duncan

August 16, 1956 — October 11, 2018

In Memory of Sarah Lynn Duncan Sarah was born August 16,1956 in Alton, Illinois. She moved to the Bay Area in 1972. She then moved to the Sacramento area in 1976. She earned her Bachelors and Masters in Psychology from National University. She went on to earn her Psy. D. from Southern California University for Professional Studies. She spent 30 years as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She met her loving wife, Tanya Joy Knight, March 2, 2004. On November 3, 2008 they got legally married in Sacramento. She and Tanya became official crazy cat ladies, being owned by up to 9 kitties at a time, plus 2-4 ferals. In October 2017 she was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer Extensive. It had already metastasized to multiple organs. From her diagnosis on she was determined to fight, and she did. She never wanted a prognosis she just wished to live positively every day. From the beginning she said, “I can be happy and grateful or bitter and angry, it doesn’t matter, I will still have cancer. I choose to be happy and grateful.” The last year of her life she threw herself into her sobriety program. Attending many meetings and sharing her experience, strength and hope with all. October 20th she would have celebrated 4 years of sobriety. She passed peacefully at home on October 11th, 2018. She is survived by her wife, Tanya “T. J.” Knight, her father, Eugene “Gino” Duncan and our 6 cats. Also she is remembered and loved by many friends in and out of the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. She made a tremendous impact in the lives of many by showing you don’t have to drink or use no matter what. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to any cat or animal rescue of your choice.
