Robert Rice Rygg

Robert “Robbe” Rice Rygg, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend to all, passed away August 28, at age 74, after a short but hard-fought battle with an aggressive cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones to the very end. Robbe enjoyed life, family and friends. A whitewater enthusiast, he rafted the Colorado River three times and conquered countless other rivers. Kind, witty and intelligent, he brightened the lives of others with a smile, joke, or word of wisdom. He took great pleasure in scholarly conversation with old and new friends, alike. He had the ability to engage and captivate just about anyone, and often would. One of his greatest gifts was to always see the best in people and find the positive in every situation. His indomitable spirit and overwhelming positive attitude encouraged his family and friends to persist in difficult times. He was born October 23, 1942 in La Jolla, California, to Major William A. Rygg, USMC, and Florence Rice Rygg. He is survived by his first wife D’Anne Buddrius Rygg (West Hills), his second wife Jutta Mayer Rygg (Sacramento) and their children William Morgan Rygg (Santa Barbara), Alexander Spencer Rygg (Humboldt), Viktoria Kirsten Rygg (Sacramento) and Elizabeth Rhys Rygg (Sacramento), brothers Wm. A. “Tony” Rygg (Sacramento) and Ronald F. Rygg (Monterey), and sister Wendie Davila (Sacramento). Robbe grew up in Van Nuys, California, where he graduated from Van Nuys High School. He attended Oregon State University, remaining a life-long Beavers fan, and California State University Northridge, majoring in business. Robbe served in the Military Intelligence Corps, U.S. Army. He worked for Arthur Andersen accounting firm in Los Angeles for several years before joining Northridge Hospital’s finance department where he served as chief financial officer. He later headed up the medical practice acquisitions and development division for UniHealth, and also worked as an independent healthcare consultant for many years in the greater Los Angeles area. Robbe wanted to “pave the way for the smartest minds to work in medicine and improve people’s lives”. In 2010, Robbe and family moved to Sacramento to be closer to the families of his brother and sister. Family and harmony were the most important things in his life. Robbe was immensely loved and will be dearly missed by all. We love you. His Celebration of Live will be held on October 1st, 2017 at Arden Hills Country Club, 1220 Arden Hills Lane, Sacramento, CA 958641:00 till 4:00pm .
