Raymond Norman Eckert

Raymond Norman Eckert passed away peacefully on October 4, 2017, surrounded by friends and family. Born October 10, 1934, the 4th of 5 siblings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Helen and John Eckert. After completing his education, Raymond served in the US Marine Corps, as a Drill Sergeant. After his military service, he joined a design team as a draftsman at Convair, a division of General Dynamics, in San Diego, California, where he met and married Barbara Legenza on April 28, 1957. In 1963, the Eckert family moved to Carmichael, California, where Raymond worked at Dewante and Stowell Engineering for 35 years with a wonderful group of coworkers that developed into life-long friendships. After he retired he worked part time for several years at Eco:Logic Engineering as a consultant with some of the same group of coworkers. Dad and Mom were happily married for 56 years, sharing a love of music, gardening and travel before she passed away in 2013. Dad loved distance running and competed in numerous organized runs and marathons over the years. He was an avid reader, Notre Dame Football fan, and always looked forward to his weekly round of golf with his golf buddies. Since mom's passing, Dad shared his time with his loving companion, Barbara Zwankhuizen, and loved their many trips. He will be remembered as a generous man who would always lend a hand and would never say no to a gathering with family and friends. He is survived by his children Michelle (David) Scott, Janine (Donald) Brinkman, Mark (Elena) Eckert, and Annette Eckert, as well as grandchildren Emma, Daniel, and Abegayle, sister Helen, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Kathie and Jerry Legenza, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews. The Service Details: Sacramento Valley National Cemetery 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620 10:00 am, October 26, 2017. After the service, family and close friends are invited to celebrate Ray's life, from1:00 to 4:00 PM, at1709 Haggin Grove Wayin Carmichael.
