Through these modest words, we try to describe and celebrate the life of a wonderful man, Petre “Peter” Nitulescu, affectionately known to many as “Don Pedro”.
Peter was born in Romania in the 1940s, during a time when the world was engulfed in the turmoil of war. His life exemplified strength, determination, and an unyielding spirit. From a young age, Peter understood the value of responsibility. At just 12 years old, he began working to support his family, which included his mother, father, sister, and grandmother. This responsibility shaped his heart and his understanding of sacrifice.
His life led him on many journeys, and he found his calling in driving. For 52 years, he transported Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon, and other valuable cargo across various countries, including Romania, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States. Although his English was modest, he would proudly share that he “was a truck driver for 52 years”. His passion for the road, trucking, and his exceptional mechanical skills allowed him to take care of, and repair, his trucks and cars, with expertise and pride.
Peter's love for life extended well beyond his work. He cherished traditional Romanian music, delighting in the sweet sounds of the accordion and violin. He found joy in gatherings with family and friends, sharing good meals and drinks. Despite the risks he faced on the road, especially considering the nature of his explosive cargo, he lived life to the fullest. Death did not frighten him; instead, he placed his trust in God and our Lord Jesus Christ every day, offering prayers and finding peace in his faith.
He fought a long and difficult battle against his illnesses over the years, impressing his doctors with his strength and perseverance. But, when God finally called him, he responded. Although it is hard for all of us who are left behind, we take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering. His journey on Earth has come to an end, and he is now living his eternal life among angels, embraced by God’s everlasting love. Saint Peter, after whom he was named, has opened Heaven’s gates for him.
Petre, Peter, or “Don Pedro”—as many of his friends and family affectionately called him—was a beautiful soul. He embodied kindness, strength, and humility. His laughter, hard work, kindness, generosity and zest for life will forever remain in the memories of those who loved him. As we mourn his passing, we find solace in knowing that he has returned to the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father, where he can now rest in peace for all eternity.
We, his beloved family—Maria-Elena, Titina, Carmen, Eugen, Anca, Ninel, and Andrea— know that his memories will live in our hearts forever. May our prayers for his soul carry him forward on the wings of the angels. We pray that he finds everlasting peace in Heaven and that one day, we will all be reunited in the joy and love of our Lord.
May you rest in peace, Petre, until we see you again.
Vei fi in sufletele noastre pentru totdeauna. Dumnezeu sa te odihneasca.
AMEN
