Selfless, diligent, kind, thoughtful and giving are some of the words to describe beloved husband and father, Paul Dayton Hughes.
Born on Sept 10th 1943 in Texas, Paul was the middle son and is survived by his loving sister, Susan.
Paul was a quiet man and spent much of his time consuming mystery novels, enjoying classic cars (at one time he even owned a beautiful green MG), enjoying British mystery series and in the latter years of his life spending time with his wife and youngest son, Tim. They loved drinking coffee at Peet’s and just sharing what was going on in their lives.
His oldest son, Josh and him greatly enjoyed visiting the racetrack; watching classic car races and pending time together. They loved to talk about electronics and sports and Josh was greatly inspired by his dad.
Tim, Paul’s younger son, and him enjoyed watching arena football and rooted for the San Jose Saber Cats. They even won and all-expense paid trip to watch their team play in the Arena Football Championship, which brought him great joy.
Paul and his wife of 54 years, Diane loved visiting their favorite place; Pacific Grove. It is there where they listened to the waves hit the shore and spent many happy anniversaries together. Diane knew she was blessed to have a devoted husband.
Paul fiercely loved his oldest daughter Sarah; she was the apple of his eye and they were inseparable.
Dad loved fine foods and his lovely daughter, Michelle spoiled him, making all his favorite meals. He was so happy to gain another daughter when Josh married her.
Paul’s youngest daughter Emily adored him. She was particularly close to him and they shared fun jokes. She always loved bringing him ice cream every Friday afternoon and sitting with him to talk. Her husband, Scott loved helping Paul with tasks and going to festivals and Disneyland together.
Paul was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren born to his two daughters, Sarah and Emily. His grandchildren Brittany, Jessica, Kaitlyn and Andrew and Maggie, Pemberly and Felicity will miss him greatly. He treasured the times he spent with all of them, getting to know a new generation.
Paul’s sweet dog Wallace will greatly miss him as he loved sleeping on Paul’s lap every night. Paul must be thrilled to be in Heaven with his other beloved pets, Moose, Sligo and Hannah.
Paul was always excited to enjoy an occasional chocolate milk shake, fine steak and Iced tea. A long time passion of his was photography, and he took great pleasure in capturing nature and cars.
Finally, Paul loved woodworking and their home is filled with shelves that he made.
Paul knew that he was a child of God, and his faith was central to his life, guiding everything he did. His family is at peace and feels such joy knowing that he is in Heaven celebrating his homecoming with his savior.
