Nicholas ""Nick"" Martin Mendel Jr

Nicholas Martin Mendel, ""Nick"", went home to the Lord peacefully in his home on Thursday, August 25th. He was 86 years old. Nick was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 11, 1930 and resided in Carmichael, California with his wife, Dawn, who passed away just 8 months prior. They had been married 62 years. Nick proudly served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Yorktown. After being discharged, he made his career in the retail business as a manager of Safeway Stores. Nick enjoyed life and was friendly to everyone he met. He loved a good joke and reminiscing about his childhood home in New Orleans. His family and close friends raved about his delicious Shrimp Gumbo! He is survived by his daughters Niki Christian (husband Charlie), Loni Plank, Tami Prince, (husband Nathan), and his grandchildren, Jonathan Gennaro, (wife Kayli), Dylan Plank (wife Hanna), Brianna Vick, (Husband Rande), Shannon Alexander (husband Jordon), Wyatt Prince and Jessie Prince. Nick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life at the home of his daughter, Tami, on Sunday, September 25th, beginning at 2pm.
