Nancy Danielson Moore

May 10, 1928 — August 28, 2023

Nancy Danielson Moore. Born May 10, 1928. Died Aug. 28, 2023 at 95 of old age.

The only child of Elmer and Claire Danielson, Nancy grew up in Oakland, Calif. Her father owned a plastics manufacturing company in San Francisco. Her mother enjoyed hosting social events and would sometimes leave Nancy to her own devices, which led to interesting stories later in life. Nancy would talk about walking to the park by herself at age four and crossing what is now MacArthur Boulevard.

With her father, Nancy shared an adventurous personality, sailing boats on Lake Merritt, going fishing with her father at Fort Seward and showing her horse, Sir John Edwin, a hunter, at venues like the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

After graduating from Oakland High, Nancy went to University of California, Davis where she earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics and met her husband Sheldon Moore. Following her graduation from Davis, Nancy taught high school in Fremont and Sacramento before her 1954 marriage to Sheldon.

Nancy and Sheldon’s honeymoon was a three-day drive to San Antonio so Sheldon could report to active duty with the United States Air Force. Sheldon served seven years in the air force, including three years active duty. During Sheldon’s active duty, his and Nancy’s first two children, daughters Carolyn and Diane were born. Two more children, daughter Suzanne and son Daren were born after Sheldon completed active duty.

Following military service, Sheldon became a farmer. Eventually, the family moved to Clifton Court near Tracy in the early 1960s. Nancy worked hard to restore the 19th century Victorian that the family lived in on their ranch, with her efforts chronicled in an article in the Tracy Press in 1964.

Nancy was a dedicated mother to her four children while Sheldon ran the farm. She learned how to can fruit and make jams and was famous for her pies, all of which she taught her children. A fond family memory was picking blackberries on Old River, which ran adjacent to the farm, and making berry pie or jam in the afternoon.

Family meant everything to Nancy, whether it was treating her children and grandchildren to trips to places like Mexico, Alaska or Europe or beaming with pride about whatever a loved one had recently accomplished. In addition to this, she enjoyed traveling extensively with Sheldon.

Nancy died on her 69th wedding anniversary and was survived by Sheldon, who died March 31, 2024 at age 92. She was predeceased by: her parents; son Dr. Daren Moore and his wife Dr. Alba Moore; and cousins Virginia Smith and Joan Ward who were all single children and like sisters to one another. Nancy is survived by daughters Carolyn (Brett) Marck of Seattle, Diane (Curtis) Zylka of Bodega Bay and Suzanne (Jesse) Womack of Sacramento, as well as 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Nancy had a larger-than-life personality that cannot easily be replaced in her family. But her values, including her fierce loyalty to and love for her family, will live on.

A private service for family was held in October 2023.
