Matthew Anthony Esparza was born on May 19, 1948, in La Junta, Colorado. Having served two years in the United States Army while on assignment in South Korea during the Vietnam War, and having worked eight years in the U.S. Postal Service, he turned to traveling. His travels took him north to Alaska, only to finally settle first in Medford, Oregon for a number of years, and then coming home to Carmichael, California. In addition to Matty's love for classic rocka€""being fond of bands Santana, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, and The Grateful Deada€""he also thoroughly enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Francisco Giants, and the Sacramento River Cats play ball. Above all, Matty loved his nieces and nephews. He always showed a genuine interest in what they had to say. On March 25, 2016, Matty entered into his eternal rest joining his parents Leo and Esther and his brothers Michael, Leo, and Gregory. He leaves behind his brothers and sistersa€""Jon, Andrew, Linda, Sr. Rita Irene, Gerard, Mary, and Bena€""his nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Matty's final gift was that of being an organ donor to those in need. A farewell rosary and final memorial will be held on May 21, 2016, at noon at Mercy San Juan Medical Center Chapel.
