Mary Margaret Campos, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother passed away peacefully on July 18th. Mary was born on May 10, 1945 to Jose and Sofia Marquez in Fort Collins, Colorado. Mary’s family moved to Sacramento, California when she was nine years old and Mary attended school at Lincoln Elementary and Sacramento High School. As a young person, Mary spent many enjoyable times with her siblings, she loved to attend Mexican dances at the Fox Senator, and enjoyed getting her favorite tacos from the Dairy Queen on Broadway. Mary married Robert Campos, Sr. and they had two sons, Robert A. Campos, Jr. and Christopher J. Campos. Mary was a devoted mother and her sons appreciated her wonderful cooking, sense of humor, wisdom, strength, and understanding. Throughout her career, Mary was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing hearty and nutritious meals for the elderly residents of Atria Assistive Living in Carmichael. Mary also previously worked as a cook at Trinity House Retirement Community and at the Meredith Fish Company in Sacramento. Over her career, Mary made many friends and her colleagues share many happy memories of Mary’s ability to work diligently while having a laugh or making others smile. Mary will be remembered for her excellent cooking skills, which included a tradition of getting together with her sister each year to make tamales, share laughs and reminisce on old times. Mary was famous for her Fourth of July potato salad and her baked goods, which she shared with her family. All that Mary did was done so with love and warmth, her smile and laugh were contagious and she brought her family lots of joy, including her regular visits with her sister to have coffee and watch their favorite gameshows, Let’s Make a Deal and the Price is Right. Mary is preceded in death by her beloved son Christopher, sister Lavinia Roybal, brothers Phillip Marquez, Tony Marquez, and Manual Marquez; mother Sofia Marquez and father Joe Marquez. Mary is survived by her son Robert Campos, Robert’s wife Robin, and their children. Mary is also survived by her sisters Josie Ramirez, Rosemary Trujillo, and Mary Trujillo, and brother Joseph Marquez, and numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember their Aunt Margie.
