In Loving Memory of Lourdes Imperial Viaje
January 20, 1944 – August 21, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lourdes Imperial Viaje, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on August 21, 2024, at the age of 80, due to cardiac arrest.
Lourdes was born on January 20, 1944, in Metro Manila, Philippines, to Josephina and Benjamin Imperial. She spent her formative years in Atimonan, where she attended elementary through high school at Atimonan Academy. A bright and determined student, Lourdes pursued higher education at Far Eastern University, shaping a foundation for her lifelong dedication to family and community.
Lourdes married Rolando K. Viaje, and together they raised three children: Rommel, Raquel, and Rossel. As a devoted mother, she instilled values of love, resilience, and kindness in her children, leaving an enduring legacy through them and her four grandchildren.
In 2000, Lourdes and her youngest daughter, Rossel, immigrated to the United States, joining her sister Angela and brother-in-law Jon Howdeshell in Laramie, Wyoming. Lourdes began working at the University of Wyoming’s Washakie Dining Center, where her warmth and work ethic touched the lives of colleagues which some would become good friends.
After retiring in 2010, Lourdes moved to Sacramento, California, to live with her daughter, Rossel and son-in-law, Brandon. Surrounded by loved ones, she spent her later years sharing cherished memories, enjoying family gatherings, and bringing joy to those around her.
Lourdes was a remarkable woman known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends and of course, her wonderful cooking. Her legacy is carried on by her three children, Rommel, Raquel, and Rossel; her five grandchildren; Rachmiela, Jammela, Rafael, Jezemiel, and Nathaniel. And her four great grandchildren; Billy Joe, Andrew, Shawn, Trevor, and all those whose lives she touched with her grace and compassion.
Lourdes will be deeply missed but forever remembered. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
