Lloyd Ray Dunham

Lloyd Ray Dunham passed away on November 20th, 2017. Ray, as he was known to family and friends, was born on August 10th, 1925 in Pocatello, Idaho and was the son of Lloyd and Minnie Dunham. He graduated from Chico High School in Chico, California and served in the Navy on the anti-submarine carrier USS Bogue during WWII. Ray married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Burns, in December 1946. He earned a BS in zoology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1951. After graduation, the family moved to Rancho Cordova and Ray worked for the California Department of Fish and Game as a fisheries biologist. He later went on to work for the Department of Water Resources Water Quality Control Board. He travelled extensively throughout California for work and pleasure, and especially loved the Point Reyes area. Ray had a lifelong passion for photography, and was able to use his talent while working for the State and as a freelance photographer. He was also a devoted fan of Dixieland music, and volunteered for several years at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. He strongly believed in maintaining wildlife habitats so that they could be enjoyed by future generations. Ray was a founding member of the Rancho Cordova Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder. He and Virginia later joined the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Sacramento. He enjoyed singing in the choir at both churches. Ray is survived by Virginia, his wife of 71 years, his children, Michael, David (Sara), Jane (Rick) and Tim (Gail), four grand-children and one great-grand-daughter. He is also survived by his brother Ralph and sister Ann. He was preceded in death by his brother David. Ray was an incredible husband, father, and friend to everyone who met him. We will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held at the Northminster Presbyterian Church,3235 Pope Ave, SacramentoonDecember 9th, 2017 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his memory to The Nature Conservancy.
