Born November 29, 1932, in Laguna Beach CA to parents Clarence and Eva Watkins; passed away at Sutter Roseville Hospital on January 22, 2017, after a long and very courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Larry was predeceased by his parents, his sister Pat, brother Ed, and, beloved Uncle Kenny Watkins. He is survived by his wife and life partner Sharon, his brother Don Watkins of southern California, and daughters Sherri Logsdon of El Dorado and Cyndi (Scott) Watkins-McCormack of Redding. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren Kevin (Allie) Allman, Katie Jean (Kyle) Brown, and two great-grandchildren, with a third due in May. He leaves many other loving and caring relatives. Upon graduation from high school, Larry joined the U.S. Navy in October 1950 and served until he was honorably discharged in May 1953. He held several jobs and then in 1957, became a member of the California Highway Patrol, spending the next 32 ½ years ""Enforcing the law and having fun!"". His assignments included Riverside, the Academy, Redding, and Headquarters. He rose to the level of Assistant Commissioner of Field Operations. Larry loved the Patrol and always remained loyal to its mission and standards. He mentored and befriended many, and his presence will be missed by all who knew him. After retirement in 1989, Larry retired to a life of fishing, camping, abalone diving, volunteering at the California State Fair Wine competition; and, as with every other aspect of his life, striving to enjoy every day to its fullest. A memorial service will be held in Larry's honor on February 22, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Bayside Church, 8191 Sierra College Blvd., Roseville CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Parkinson's Association of Northern California, 1750 Prairie City Road, Folsom, CA 95630, or online at panc@parkinsonsacramento.org. Donations may also be made to the CHP 11-99 Foundation, 2244 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, CA 92831. The family would like to thank the staff at Sutter Roseville Hospital who made his last days in Room 184 a little more bearable. Also, a special thanks to his loyal caregiver and friend, Nancie, who unselfishly gave of her time and patience over the last year.
