Joyce Lunnen

Joyce Hone Lunnen 87, passed away at home on April 10, 2021. She is now reunited with the love of her life, James A. Lunnen. She is survived by her children; Jim B. (Lisa Brewer) Lunnen, Janet (Dave) Spence, JoAnn Lunnen, John W. Lunnen, and Jennifer (Cory) Sturzenegger, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Joyce was born to Jesse Boyd Hone and Myrthal Nebeker Hone on October 29, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the youngest of ten children. She married her sweetheart in August 1955. Together, they raised a family of five children. Joyce loved everything lighthouses. They had special meaning to her. She always knew that Heavenly Father and the light of Christ was the beacon in our storms of life. She enveloped everyone in the Light of Christ that shined in her. Lighthouses have often symbolized strength, safety, individuality, and hope. Joyce shared many of these same lighthouse qualities. Joyce was strong. She enjoyed a full, productive, and active life. She knew how to work hard. She started with a 99 cents store and ended with three of The Diet Center franchises. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge of food and cooking with everyone she knew. She loved putting on beautiful and tasty dinners for her friends and family. She just loved to celebrate life! Joyce provided a safe environment to those who surrounded her. She could walk into a room and cheer up the atmosphere in it. She truly could light up a room with her beautiful smile and contagious laugh! She loved sports and games. She shared her love of sports, outdoors, water and lighthouses with her children, and many family and friends. She taught her children how to water-ski, play tennis, ping-pong, pinochle, dominoes, and hand and foot. What fun we had! Joyce expressed her individuality and shared her creations. She was so talented in everything that she set out to do. From making macrame plant hangers to printing personalized names on scriptures and greeting cards for Hallmark. Her hands always needed to be doing something. She would crochet hot pads, washcloths, hair scrunchies, slippers, and hacky-sacks. Also, she created so many quilts, too numerous to count. We called her our Energizer Bunny :-). Joyce shared her hope for a bright future. She and Jim had the opportunity to serve two missions for our church; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They served both in the Virginia-Richmond Mission and the California-Sacramento Mission. Also, Joyce spent many years serving as an ordinance worker in the Oakland Temple. Joyce is very much like the beacon of light within the lighthouse; very active, never sit down, who should I serve next, what fun can we have now, kind of person. She has always been devoted to her family, friends, and her church. She is loved very much and will be greatly missed here on earth. We take comfort in knowing she was ready for the next adventure her Heavenly Father wanted her to do.
