Joy Almeda Nice

Joy Almeda Nice passed away at Sutter Roseville Medical Center on August 19, 2017 at the age of 92. She was born on July 26, 1925 in New Moorefield, OH to Abraham and Oletha McConehea. She spent the first part of her life in Springfield, OH, and lived in Carmichael, CA since 1970. Joy was a longtime member of the Church of God of Carmichael where she shared her love of music. She was active in several church singing groups, the church choir, and frequently led the congregation in the singing of hymns. In addition to her love of music, she was known for her gift of hospitality. Joy loved to be surrounded by family and friends. Her hospitality was greatly appreciated by several of her grandchildren who found an available room or couch open to them for as long as needed. Her love and compassion made her a secondary mother figure and adopted grandmother to many of the people she knew. She is preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Oletha McConehea, and her siblings, William, Frances Childs, Samuel, Hollis, and Donald. She is also preceded by her husband, Elga Weekley and her husband, John Nice Sr. She is survived by her children, Nancy Townsend, Carl Weekley, Linda Weekley, Annie Howery, Bud Nice and John Nice Jr. She is also survived by her 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
