Joy Ann Geck

d. December 3, 2023

Joy Ann Geck (1947 - 2023)

Joy Ann Geck was a caring wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and strong friend to many.  She left this world unexpectantly and much too soon on December 3rd at age 76.

She was born to Jack and Ada Steck in 1947 in Tacoma, Washington.  Later her parents moved to Orangeville, California, where she would first meet some of her dearest friends to this day.  Joy graduated from Bella Visa High School (1965), then earned a A.A. from American River College, followed by her meeting her dedicated husband of 55 years, Jack Geck.  She traveled extensively with her husband during his 22-year military career in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Florida, and California.  Together, Jack and Joy had three children, Jeff, Jason, and Joel.

Joy loved children and focused her entire career on Early Childhood education. She taught pre-school in multiple locations, but the longest at Sierra College (30+ years) before (finally) retiring in 2019.  She spent many outside work hours preparing teaching facilities and material for instruction.  So dedicated were her efforts, she earned the Placer County teacher of the year award in 2010.

Joy who was loved by all who knew and interacted with her.  She was a strong partner, teacher, child education advocate, selfless individual.  Joy’s hobbies included watching/attending sports events, shopping, supporting Starbuck’s, visiting life-long friends, and of course organizing events. Joy excelled in planning the many fun-filled family/friend annual events from Fourth of July BBQs, camping in Yosemite camping, and excursions in Alaska and Hawaii over the years.

A celebration of life will be held in early spring to share stories of this loving person.
