John C. Davenport of Sacramento, CA, left this world on Wednesday, September 11, surrounded by his family. He was born to Ellis and Mary (Moriarity) Davenport in Sacramento on May 18, 1947. He graduated from Sacramento High School in June 1965. He was called to serve the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was admired for his bravery and vigilance and saved thousands of lives despite his rank. Due to an injury, he was discharged in 1968 and rehabilitated in Japan and San Francisco.
Finally settling back in California, he went and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business from Sacramento State University. John spent the majority of his career working as a postal carrier for USPS in downtown Sacramento, where he was a beloved fixture on his mail route. Not knowing a stranger, John made friends everywhere he traveled to. He had a passion for restoring and showing vintage cars and, for a time, was President of the Mustang Club of Sacramento. He loved NASCAR and could be found in front of the TV every Saturday and Sunday. He was an avid traveler and cruised all over the world on more than 20 ships, spending his favorite moments traveling with his beloved wife Cynthia.
Grateful to have shared John's life is his wife of almost 43 years, Cynthia, daughter Tracey (Michael) Stratton, and grandchildren Jake Gregg, Ben Stratton, Joseph Guererra, Avery Stratton, Jayson Gregg, and Giulianna Guererra. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Davenport of Seal Beach.
John was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Trisha Guerrera.
John will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
