Born on July 11, 1922 in Lake Linden, a small copper mining town on Michigan’s upper peninsula, to Catherine Guard Johnston and Philip Reid Johnston, Jean found peace in Carmichael July 3, 2018. She lived a full and rewarding life of 95 years. She graduated from Lake Linden High School in 1940 and studied at what is now Michigan Technical University and attended Ferris Institute (Ferris State University). While working as a lab technician at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, she married (1949) a physician from California who was finishing a general surgical residency after WW II, James Charles Tynan MD. They settled in Sacramento in 1950, actively participating in the community and raising five children in their home of 63 years on Del Dayo Drive in Carmichael. Jean spent countless hours shuttling her kids to school events, swim practice at Arden Hills (of which she and Jim were founding members) and ensuring that all were well nurtured through her considerable cooking skills. She loved to golf at Del Paso Country Club and other regional courses, attend formal dances, host parties with friends to sing along at the piano, vacation in Aptos each August and travel to her beloved Hawaiian Islands. She made long-lasting friendships with her neighbors, golfing buddies, Jim’s colleagues and their wives, and the many friends (now adults) of the kids who came to her welcoming home. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children: Patricia Ann Tynan (Rick Harris), Juneau, Alaska; Thomas James Tynan, Sacramento; Timothy John Tynan (Clare), Olympia, Washington; Daniel Reid Tynan (Denise), Rocklin; and Kimberly Jean Tynan, Carmichael. She enjoyed six grandchildren: Reid Tynan Harris, Matthew Joseph Tynan (Kelsey), Heather Michaelin Harris, Michelle K.E. Tynan, Justin James Tynan and Kayce Lynn Tynan.
