On September 21. Janet Wilde Tobey passed away at her home in Carmichael, CA after an extended illness. Janet (or as she preferred to be called Jan), was born in Ogden, Utah on March 30, 1943, to Betty and Royal Wilde. Jan grew up in Ogden, graduated from Bonneville High School and attended Weber College. On December 1, 1961, she married her high-school sweetheart, Earl Tobey. Jan and Earl were married for almost 60 years during which time they had two beautiful daughters, Laura and Stephanie (Stevae). Because of Earl’s job, Jan and Earl moved several times, living in Minneapolis, Urbana, IL, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and eventually Sacramento. In 1991, they designed and had built their dream house in Carmichael where they lived ever since. Jan was very outgoing and easy to know. It’s been said you could lock her in a room with 10 total strangers and she would come out 15 minutes later with 10 new friends. She was also very actively socially. She was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, most recently in the Laureate Kappa Sigma chapter here in Sacramento. She also enjoyed getting together with her friends for shopping trips, card and game playing parties. Jan was extremely adventuresome, always looking for something new and exciting. She enjoyed mountain climbing, hot air balloons, zip lining and spelunking hand over hand down a rope inside dark caves. She even went skydiving to celebrate her 75th birthday. Jan is survived by her husband Earl, Daughters Laura and Stevae, three grandsons, two sisters and two brothers. Jan’s ashes will be placed in a grave in Ogden, Utah next to her Mother and Father. In accordance with Jan’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held here in the Sacramento area at a later date (after more of the Covid restrictions have been lifted).
