James Joseph Nicknig

September 12, 1930 — February 21, 2015

James Joseph Nicknig was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on September 12, 1930. He was the youngest of four children born to John and Mary Nicknig. Jim passed from this world on February 21, 2015, at the age of 84. From early life, Jim was a very active child with a quick wit and an adventuresome nature, characteristics that he demonstrated throughout his entire life. He was raised in the Catholic Church and was a lifetime believer, active until most recently at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Sacramento. Jim went to Temple University in Philadelphia and California State University, Sacramento. Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Beale Air Force Base in Marysville. Jim and Marnell met while ""cruising"" D Street in Marysville on the 4th of July and were married in 1953. Upon Jim's discharge from the service they moved east for several years, returning to California in 1957 to raise their four children, Kurt, Maria, Leah and Paul in Sacramento. Jim was bright, personable and capable and held positions of responsibility in several professions including banking and with the State Department of Developmental Services. Jim's many friends and family have a vast collection of fond memories... his comical antics at annual family campouts, his love of animals including his dogs ""Macho"" and ""Chief"" and many cats, his extraordinary sense of humor which both charmed and entertained virtually everyone he met, and his energy, he was always in motion. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marnell, his four children and their spouses, eight grand children and four great grand children. A memorial service and reception will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Parrish at 3235 Arden Way in Sacramento at 10:00am on Thursday, March 5th.
