Jack Gordon Howe was born on March 25, 1933 in Kansas City, KS. He passed away March 20, 2025, just shy of his 92nd birthday.
He was brought up in Raytown, MO. The youngest of four, he was the closest to his sister Katherine who was 14 years older. At the age of 14, Jack went to work for Fox's Drug Store as a soda jerk. At 15, he began working at Farmer's Insurance where he was sent to IBM's Accounting Machine Control Wiring school. He was certified in 1949 on various machines.
At the age of 19, he drove his mom and pregnant sister and her two children to California to meet up with her husband who was working at the Alameda Naval Shipyards. In 1953, he was drafted into the Army to serve during the Korean War. He was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco working with computers due to his previous training and experience. Jack was discharged in May 1955. He went to work for American Standard while waiting to hear if Motor Registration News would hire him.... they did. Jack met his wife, Phyllis, in May of 1955 and they married in September of that year. After they were married, Jack adopted Phyllis's daughter, Jackie who was almost 3 years old. Then in 1958, Jack, Phyllis and Jackie welcomed daughter Julie into the family. In the 1960s, Donnelley Marketing bought Motor Registration News and Jack went to work for them. He was a successful salesman of direct mail advertising until he retired in 1995.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Julie (Howe) Heuser, son-in-law Paul Heuser, son-in-law Terry Colburn, Grandsons Trent Colburn (Dani), Jakob Heuser (Vy), Christopher Heuser (Claudia), Nicholas Colburn (Samantha) and six great grandchildren, Nora Heuser, Isaiah Heuser, Bennett Heuser, Trevor Heuser, Siena Heuser and Madilyn Sangalang Colburn. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis and daughter Jackie Colburn.
Jack's ashes will be scattered in Morro Bay, CA -- his family's favorite place to vacation since 1963.
