Gregory Frechette Hodson

August 22, 1956 — August 3, 2024

Greg Hodson was born on August 22, 1956 in Stockton, California to Joseph F. Hodson and Eleanor Farrell Hodson and passed on August 3, 2024. His heart failed while doing what he most loved, competing in a USA Track and Field event at American River College in Sacramento.

Greg attended St. Luke's Elementary and St. Mary's High School in Stockton. He was president of his senior class and a member of the track and field team, where he set the school record for the mile at 4:34.4. He graduated in June 197 4 and matriculated to Stanford University in Palo Alto where he was a member of the NCAA Varsity cross country team for three years. He graduated from Stanford with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Sciences in June 1979.

Greg served in the peacetime U.S. Army from 1985 through 1987 in Berlin, Germany. He earned the Army Achievement Medal and German Sports Medal and ran in three U.S. Army Europe Championships in cross country and track.

Greg worked for the U.S. Geological Survey for two years, the Army Corps of Engineers and spent 32 years with the U.S. Forest Service in Covelo, CA in the middle of the Mendocino National Forest. He loved the forest and his "forest family" at the U.S. Forest Service, and he loved participating in the USA Track and Field national age group events. In 2001 , he placed fourth in decathlon. In 2003, he placed fifth in decathlon and, in 2006, he placed third in decathlon. His participation in track and field events took him to Hawaii, Australia, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina and all around the state of California.
