Gerald passed peacefully on Sept 19, 2017 in Sacramento, CA at age 77. He was born in Franklinton, NC on May 20, 1940 to James Vernon and Mabel Averette Bragg. The oldest of 7 children, Gerald joined the United States Air Force in 1957 at age 17. He served his country faithfully in both a military and a civil service capacity from 1957 until he retired in 1999 from McClellan AFB with over 42 years of civil service employment. In a civilian capacity, he served in several areas of Southeast Asia as a member of the RAM Team (Rapid Area Maintenance). These brave Air Force and civilian personneloften went into combatareas to repairand recover damaged aircraft. He received 2 medals for civilian service in combat areas. Over his extensive career, he met several presidents and received numerous awards and commendations. Gerald recognized at an early age the value of a good education. He earned a BS from The University of San Francisco, AA from American River College and attended numerous in-service technical school and management seminars. His interests included a passion for learning, cars and history. He loved taking things apart to see how they worked and putting them back together. He was a member of Mason Oak Plains Lodge #789 of Sacramento, CA since 1970. Gerald married Susann KathleenBertie on June 13, 1959 at All Hallows Catholic Church in Sacramento, CA. Their marriage ended in divorce. Gerald andSusann had one child, Elizabeth Anne. Gerald married Arlis Rae Gonzales of Sutter Creek, CA on Oct. 5, 1968. Gerald is preceded in death by his wife of almost 49 years, Arlis, his parents, James Vernon and Mabel Averette Bragg, his sister Carole Bragg Garner and brother, Ballard Green(B.G.) Bragg. Geraldis survived by his daughter Elizabeth Bragg Romanazzi and her husband Joseph Romanazzi of Carmichael, CA. Brothers Tyson Bragg of Kittrell, NC, James Vernon Bragg, Jr. of Franklinton, NC, twin sisters Betty Bragg Harmon of Charleston, SC, LindaBragg Gordon of Atlanta, GA, numerous nieces/nephews and great-nieces/nephews. Graveside services with military honors are tobe held on 10/12/17 at 12:30pm at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery 5810 Midway Rd, Dixon, CA 95620. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Wounded Warriors or the charity of your choice.
