George I. Benny Jr. of Placerville, California passed away July 6th, 2024, unexpectedly and of natural causes. Always thinking of others, he quickly pulled out of traffic, and stopped on a side street before he was called home.  George was born in Ithaca, New York, graduated from St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco (go Wildcats!) and graduated summa cum laude from American River College in Carmichael. He held various unique and interesting jobs over his lifetime including a car repossession expert in Hunter’s Point, S.F., bouncer at Player’s in Carmichael, electronics technician at HP, and the majority of work life spent at various State of California positions until his retirement in Spring 2024. He is predeceased by his parents and survived by his sister, nephew, uncle, cousins, other relatives and his four legged “children”  Ranger and Cowboy. His hobbies were many, as he could and did rebuild just about anything from scratch including his sister’s washing machine. George was an electronics mastermind, make-up artist for local zombie films (he was featured in the News & Review for his work), dabbled as a guitar luthier, created inspiring black and white photography, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. George had just started to enjoy retirement and was looking forward to the years ahead.  He is gone too soon but his memories will be treasured every day by his sister, adored nephew and many friends and colleagues.  A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5751 Locust Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608; immediately followed by a gathering of friends and family at the adjacent St. James Hall.
