Fred Alfred Wedge

October 24, 1941 — December 1, 2016

Fred Wedge, born to Alfred Lee Wedge and Bertha Pernia Cupp in Kingsport, Tn. on 10/24/41 passed away 12/1/16. A fair haired boy who loved wandering the old Indian pathways of Tennessee, absorbing wisdom and love from those who travelled before. He will be remembered as an honorable man of wisdom, kindness and love. Fred liked to say he was 743 years old or thereabouts, give or take a few years. At other times he said he was 8! Whether 743 or 8 he was always playful with a goal to make us laugh and smile. Fred owned Fred's Chevron on the corner of Middlefield and Willow Rd. in Menlo Park for many years. He often commented on his old employees and the wonderful families and their kids he got to know over the years. After retirement we moved to Fair Oaks, Ca. Fred enjoyed gardening, tending to his fruit trees, planting vegetables and tilling the soil much as he recalled doing with his dad as a young boy. He often said he felt very blessed and grateful for his retirement years and the wonderment of life. Watching birds splash in the bird bath with his cat, Mango dressed as a lifeguard, the squirrels running in circles around the oak tree, walks in the rain, camping in Yosemite, watching the sunrise and the stars coming out at the end of the day. When I look over my shoulder I see him still beside me with his beautiful blue eyes and smile...love you always. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Kate; step children, Sonjia and Gabe Richards(Cris); Brother-in-laws, Glenn and Doug Gonzalez; Fred's sons from a previous marriage, Jeff and Rick Wedge and their mom Diane Wedge; loving sister, Mary Francis Blender and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Sue Crawford. We would like to thank Stanford Hospital who performed quadruple by-pass surgery on Fred 20 years ago. Also our gratitude to the doctors and nurses at San Juan Mercy Hospital for their gallant efforts in the emergency room on 12/1/16. Fred wished to be cremated...perhaps in the tradition of the Vikings out at sea.
