Flor (meaning flower in Spanish) was born September 29 th , 1932 to Benilda Arias and Fredrico Esquivel in Santiago de Puriscal, Costa Rica; a beautiful green mountain town one hour outside of the capital city of San Jose. Flor graduated from high school at the age of 17 and traveled with her aunt, Marta Proback, to Panama to live on the US Naval Base. Her aunt was married to a US officer, Nicholas Proback, who was stationed there during the Korean conflict. Marta loved having Flor with her, since Nicholas had to leave on military duty often. Though after sometime, her uncle got stationed to the Naval base in Norfolk, Virginia. There Flor met the love of her life, Jack Steed. They married and once Jack was finished with his duty in the Navy, they moved to Sacramento, California. There she was a homemaker and raised her four children. Flor and Jack were married for 67 years until his passing in 2019.
Flor had a talent for everything crafty from crochet, needlepoint, sewing, cake decorating, and more. Later in life she joined the Cottage Tappers and volunteered her time for many years entertaining at senior care homes and other places in the Sacramento area. Also, she loved to belly dance!
Flor had great beauty inside and out, along with grace and kindnesses for so many around her. She is survived by her three sons, Richard, Michael, David, and daughter Jennifer. Also, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and other family. She loved all her family dearly and was happiest having them by her side. She will be missed tremendously.
