Ezzard Charles Regan

My father, Ezzard Charles Regan, was born on February 15, 1951, in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was taken from us much too soon, on March 7, 2023, in Carmichael, CA. There is so much that happened between those two dates, and there is no way I could reiterate in a single tribute the life he led. But I’m going to do my very best. My dad was raised in New York City in Manhattan (Harlem). He was the son of Vashtie Regan of Lumberton, North Carolina. He received his early education in there and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps immediately after high school. Upon completing Basic Training, he graduated from Parris Island, South Carolina. He was a proud Marine and served 20 long and honorable years. In 1986, he met and fell in love with my mother Cindy Regan while he was stationed in Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii. They married on July 23, 1987. He retired from the Marines on April 1, 1999, and we made many memories on the island before moving to Northern California in 2003. My parents were married for 35 long and happy years. He is survived by his mother, wife, 3 daughters, 2 stepsons, and many grandchildren. I have many wonderful memories of my dad; taking me to parks, the pool, the zoo, and one of our favorite places Sea Life Park in Waimanalo Beach, HI. But my favorite memory of all has to be our annual family trips to The Big Island of Hawaii. We stayed in log cabins and would visit the Kilauea Volcano and black sand beaches. My mother and I know that he provided for everything that we needed and more. He cared deeply for his grandchildren, Cyrah and Coen, and always made sure we were taken care of. He lived out his final years in Northrn California with his family. He enjoyed the wonderful life of retirement; relaxing at home, fishing with his grandson, and spending time with my mother. These last few days we’ve been reminiscing, going through old pictures, and telling stories about the high points. We’ve remembered his days as a DJ, family vacations, the time we put 50 trick candles on his birthday cake and we couldn’t get them out, and many other wonderful memories.
