Dr. Eduardo “Ed” Quimpo, of Juneau, passed away in Roseville, California, on May 23, 2023, with his wife and son by his side three months after receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Eduardo was born in Iligan City, Philippines, on March 12, 1948, to Primitivo and Lucena Quimpo. He graduated from medical school at Southwestern University in Cebu, Philippines. He went on to practice as a physician specializing in eyes, ears, nose, and throat. Eduardo met his wife, Emma, a medical lab technologist, in Iligan while practicing medicine. He enjoyed volunteering on medical missions, participated in fundraisers for the sick and needy, and provided free services in his clinic for the poor. He retired after 30 successful years as a physician in the Philippines and moved to Juneau in 2006.
He loved spending time with family and relatives, walking the family dogs Alaska and Rock-C, visiting the Philippines, and participating in activities of his fraternal order, The Freemasons.
Eduardo was a devoted father, brother, and husband. He was a father figure for many of his nephews and nieces. He was known for his kindness, generosity, beautiful smile, and sense of humor. So many good friends and family love him dearly, and he will be sorely missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Primitivo Quimpo Sr. and Lucena Bulos Quimpo, brother Primitivo Quimpo Jr, and brother Romeo Quimpo.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Quimpo, his son Jopeel Quimpo, and family pets, Alaska and Rock-C; siblings Ofelia (Gerry) Talaoc, Roselyne Quimpo, Wilfredo (Margie) Quimpo, Lourdes (Wellington) Yee, sisters-in-law Virginia Quimpo and Perlie Quimpo; and nephews and nieces.
He will be laid to rest in Pryce Gardens Memorial Park in Iligan City, Philippines, next to his parents.
