On Monday, May 8, 2023 Douglas Stone, loving husband and father of three passed away at age 86.
Doug was born on June 15, 1936 in Springfield Massachusetts. He spent most of his youth in Vallejo California. He spent two years serving in the US Marine Corps and graduated with a Masters degree from Sacramento State University. He taught Math and PE classes for the San Juan School District for 31 years. He married Carol Jane (Forrester) in Benicia California on August 11, 1957. They raised two sons, Jeff and Ed and one daughter Kathy.
Doug’s passion was football. He played center and middle linebacker for the legendary Vallejo High School teams graduating in 1953. He continued his career playing for Vallejo JC, Sacramento State University, and two years of semi-pro ball. He coached football at Christian Brothers, El Camino, San Juan High schools and two years at American River JC. His hobbies included card playing, golf, and performing magic for his grandchildren. He was a master bridge player with a gift to manipulate cards to his favor and trick the grandkids with his mastery every single time. His preeminent passion was the care of his wife Carol. His fervor and dedication for her care demonstrated his true compassion for his wife.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Carter Stone, his mother, Marion (Falt) and brother Del Robitaille. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Carol (Forrester) Stone, his three children Jeff (Casey Jones), Kathy Weldon (Scott), Ed (Liz Curran). Also his seven grandchildren Lisa, Alycia, Natalie, Kyle, Tony, Troy, and Cole and 7 great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings, Bob, Alan, Richard, Barbara and Sandra.
