Dorothy Ann Huddleston

Dorothy Ann Taylor (Mumm, Williams, Huddleston) July 23, 1927-October 22, 2018 Dorothy Ann Taylor, at 91 years and three months of age, died quietly in the early hours of 22 October 2018 at Manor Care, Citrus Heights, CA, where she had resided for the last year and a half. Always influenced by the moon, she was guided home to The Creator by a huge, just shy of full moon, plump with a warm, embracing light. Dorothy possessed a large personality. If you met her, you did not forget her. She inherited her strong will, determination and commanding voice from her father. Her flair for the elegant, attention to the needs of others, and generosity came from her mother, “Lady Taylor.” She passed these traits in turn to her three daughters in differing measures. They carry them on in their own ways, which she encouraged them to cultivate. The products of her life of which she was most proud are these women: student and careerist, stylish world traveler, compassionate caregiver. They are all committed, creative, generous, loving mothers and aunt-carrying on Dorothy’s most enduring roles. An accomplished cook and hostess, Dorothy was happiest when serving a delicious meal, at a perfectly appointed and decorated table, to the people she most loved and enjoyed. Her table ALWAYS had a pressed cloth. She was a meticulous dresser: a pin AND a necklace, thank you. In her last days, sometimes three necklaces were called for! She was born in Waterloo, Iowa, the youngest of the five children of Edith and Stanley Taylor, of nearby Hudson, where she grew up and graduated High School. She was thrice married: First, to Leonard Mumm of Reinbeck, Iowa, with whom she had daughters Kathern and Linda. During her second marriage, to Leo Williams of Riverside, CA she bore her youngest daughter, Patricia. She subsequently married Clinton Huddleston in Paradise, CA. She loved living in California, but her heart had never really left Iowa. Her remains will be returned there to join many of her family in repose. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her siblings and their spouses (Elizabeth and “Bud” Isenhower, Howard and Martha Taylor, Gene and Jean Taylor Grinnell, Mark and Janet Taylor Anderson), her husbands, and her first grandchild, David Craig Gillespie (son of Linda). She is survived by her daughters: Kathy(Dave) Gaskins, Linda(Chuck) Breault, Pat Cotting (Ralph), and step-daughter Launa Huddleston; her grandchildren: Gretchen (Earl) Scott, Erik (Shava) Envik, Levi (Stacy) Envik and Ivan (Valerie) Envik; her great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Nathan and Kathryn Scott, Alex, Zach, Carter, Chloe, Liam Envik, Sierra Envik Rickman and Conner Powell; and a raft of nieces and nephews, many she had helped raise, and for whom she had great affection. Dorothy would often remind her family (usually after giving advice or direction that was not requested) that “You are going to miss me when I’m gone.” She was, of course, correct.
