Donald Roger Hay 9/27/1946 - 1/6/2025
Beloved Father, Husband, and Friend
Donald Ronald Hay, 78, passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 6, 2025, surrounded by his sons, Michael Hay, Donnie Hay Jr., and Lisa Delgado.
Donald was born on September 27, 1946, in Waltham, Massachusetts. He served proudly in the United States Air Force as a Weatherman Staff Officer, retiring with honors after a distinguished career. His service earned him numerous awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Training Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, and the National Defense Medal.
After retiring from the Air Force, Donald built a successful real estate business in Placer County, California, securing a bright future for his family. His professional achievements were a testament to his hard work, determination, and dedication to those he loved.
Donald was a well-traveled man, with a passion for exploring new places. He journeyed through Europe, Guam, and various parts of the United States, and learned to speak Portuguese and German during his time overseas.
Beyond his career and travels, Don had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He was an avid fan of jazz and zydeco music, with the Gator Beats being his favorite band. He enjoyed attending the annual Jazz Jubilee in Sacramento, a tradition he cherished. Don was also an enthusiastic skier and tennis player and found peace and relaxation in these activities.
A devoted Trekkie, Donald was known for his love of police shows and his special enjoyment of his favorite snacks: Pepsi, Lays potato chips, and milkshakes. He was also deeply fond of his cats, especially his Siamese companions. His beloved PC Kitty, who shared his life for 18 years, passed away two weeks after Don, and they are now reunited.
Donald is survived by his wife, Mae Lottie Hay, his sons, Michael Patrick Hay and Donald Hay Jr., his stepson, Kenny Hubert, his stepdaughter, Tina Mottini, and many close friends and family who will miss him dearly.
In his passing, we honor a man whose life was filled with service, love, and adventure—a man who made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
