Donald Vincent Blachly Donald Vincent Blachly, 99, a Carmichael resident for 67 years, passed away in Orangevale on November 19, 2017. Don was a WWII veteran, an exemplary patriarch, and a dedicated Christian. Don was born in Pomeroy, Washington to Percy Thomas and Eunice (Bunch) Blachly on September 16, 1918. He graduated from Lewiston High School in Idaho at age 16 and attended business college. He moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, and worked as a bookkeeper in a lumber mill until he joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on March 3, 1943 and became a B-17 flight instructor in Chico. He served in the Pacific Theater as a B-29 pilot, and was stationed on the island of Tinian. He flew 10 missions over Japan until the war ended. After military service, he worked in the Sacramento area for 38 years as an accountant and controller. Don was a founding member of the Norwood Avenue Church of Christ and served as a deacon, elder, and Bible class teacher for many years. He was a member of the Cordova Church of Christ for 31 years. He sponsored, corresponded with and hosted missionaries in his home. He was an early board member of Sierra Children’s Home, now Agape Villages. Don and Bessie Clarkson were married on March 4, 1943. He built the house in which they resided in Carmichael for 66 years. He is survived by five children: Pamela Bogdanovic (Peter) of Cameron Park, Donald C. Blachly (Shirley K.) of Ridgecrest, Ronald J. Blachly, M.D. (Karen) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Daniel G. Blachly and Robert V. Blachly of Sacramento; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and his sister Wilma Jean Fries of Yuma, Arizona. Don was preceded in death by his wife Bessie in 2016, his brother Jerome Seeley Blachly, sisters Lois Baker and Louise Adams, grandsons Charles G. Blachly and Robbie Blachly and great-grandson Silas Bogdanovic. All are invited to attend a Visitation Service at Sierra View Funeral Chapel, 6201 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael on Tuesday, November 28, 5 to 7 p.m., a Memorial Service with military honors at Cordova Church of Christ, 10577 Coloma Rd, Rancho Cordova on Wednesday 10 a.m. followed by a luncheon. A 2 p.m. graveside service will be held at Fair Oaks Cemetery.
