Derrol “Butch” Dewey Sears

(December 13, 1940-June 6, 2024)

Derrol “Butch”, 83, was born on December 13th, 1940, in De Pere, Wisconsin to Evelyn and George Sears. He passed away on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, while at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, California.

Butch was an Air Force veteran. He enjoyed quiet time spent walking and sitting by the water and loved sitting in the sun. He also loved spending time with family and friends, talking to the neighbors, generously giving to the homeless, and reading his Wall Street Journal. He also had a passion for his ice cream and a good gin and tonic.

While his first career choice was in architecture, he found joy in other careers as well, including a stint as a concrete worker, a Greyhound bus driver, and his personal favorite a property manager and carpenter of Clear Skies Lodge private estate in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Georgyne (Jean) and brothers Gerald (Jerry) and George (Mick) Sears.

He is survived by his brother Gregg Sears of Severna Park Maryland; his children-Clayton and Becky Sears of Volo, Illinois; Cheryl (Cherie) Sears and Casey Boylan of Elk Grove, California and Michelle (Mikki) Sears of Woodruff, Wisconsin; grandchildren- Cody Mitchel of Roselle, Illinois; Brandan Goedert of Woodruff, Wisconsin; Katie Goedert of Brandon, Florida; Alan Sears of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; Wes and Tori Sears of Elk Grove, California; Secelia and Vinny Smith of Citrus Heights, California; Brianna Sears and Brooklyn Sears of Volo, Illinois and great-grandchildren Keylee Sears and Jada Smith of Citrus Heights, California; Liam Mitchell of Roselle, Illinois and Carson Sears of Elk Grove, California

Derrol “Butch” will be missed by many. His velvet glove approach to life was no nonsense, and he left no question as to where he stood on any topic. One of his favorite songs was Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” and Butch embodied the lyrics of that song his entire life. He did things the way he felt they should be done regardless of the well-meaning opinions presented by others.

“The record shows, I took the blows and did it my way.”
