Charles Landau
October 5, 1943 - November 23, 2022
Sacramento, California - Charles Richard Landau, age 79, of Sacramento, CA, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022. Charles was raised in Pittsburgh, PA, by his parents Esther Leah Rogow and Morton Samuel Landau. He is survived by his children, Ethan (Aubrey) Landau and Molly (Chris) Kreuzer, his partner Julie Patterson, his only brother, Joseph (Judith) Landau, his first grandchild due April 2023, Charles Landau, two nephews, and other extended family.
Charles graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1967, a Master of Library and Information Sciences in 1971 from University of Pittsburgh, and a law degree from Hastings Law School in San Francisco in 1977. He served in the Peace Corps from 1968-1970 in La Mesa de Ejido, Venezuela, setting up savings and loan co-ops. He worked at Sacramento State University's library from 1972-1975. His legal career included working for CA's Public Employment Relations Board and various other State departments until 1985, when he opened his private practice as a worker's compensation attorney. In a letter to a friend, he shared that his career representing injured workers "provided me with 25 years of very satisfying work. I was in a role where I could actually try to make a difference."
Charles loved being a doting father to Ethan and Molly and dedicated partner to Julie. He enjoyed playing tennis, bowling, pickleball, and cards, wintering in Palm Desert, and traveling. He was an active member in the Jewish community and a devoted student of Jewish history and Zionism. He had a quick wit, loved to laugh, and valued philanthropic giving.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Charles' family invites you to make a donation to the Jewish National Fund in Charles' honor in lieu of sending flowers.
