Betty Jean Meyer

d. September 28, 2023

Betty Jean Meyer, 97, daughter of the late Gerald N. Bronson and LaReign I. Bronson, was born on June 25, 1926 in Alcona County, Michigan.  Betty passed peacefully in the early morning hours on September 28, 2023 in Granite Bay, California.  She was predeceased by her husband Robert Henry Meyer, her brother William W. Bronson, her daughter Lorraine Ann Meyer, and her son Robert Henry Meyer, Jr.

Betty resided in Huntington Beach, CA for many years with her husband Robert before coming to live with her daughter Carol and her husband Ray Hernandez in Northern California.

She graduated from Riley High School, South Bend Indiana and received her Registered Nursing degree at The Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit Michigan.

Betty is survived by her daughters Carol (Ray) Hernandez and Patricia (Greg) Piper, her daughter-in-law Doreen Meyer, her grandchildren Teresa Hernandez, Rebecca (David Palmer) Hernandez , Victoria Piper, Samuel Meyer, and Bailey Meyer.  As well as her great grandchildren (who affectionately nicknamed her GiGi), Emily (Wyatt) Dornbush, Jack Hord, Elizabeth Hord, John Hord, Adelynn Palmer, and Ethan Palmer.

Betty was a remarkably humble person.  Her love for writing, combined with her ability to create novels, poetry and personalized pieces about her family, showed a deeply creative spirit.  She had a talent for capturing moments and emotions in her writing.  Her stories of their adventures in Kuwait were a treasure for her family and friends to hear.

Betty had a wonderful way to unwind and express her creativity through crochet.  Making afghans and doilies was her skillful craft and a heartfelt way to share meaningful pieces with loved ones, all the while listening to the soothing voice of Dean Martin as she crocheted the day away.

In her earlier years she loved to golf with her friends in Rossmoor and Huntington Beach.  She was quite the opponent while playing cards, one of her favorite daily pastimes.  If you happen to drop in on Angel Baseball night, you better prepare to be greeted with her wearing team clothing and hat, decorating the home with her rally monkey and Angel memorabilia.  She was a most devoted fan, and she was thrilled to receive the gift of a brick installed just outside home plate at Angel Stadium in Anaheim from Robert, Doreen, Sam and Bailey Meyer.  It is inscribed with “Betty Meyer, A Faithful Fan”.

Betty’s involvement in volunteer activities in the area where Betty and Bob resided showed her commitment to giving back to the community.  She had a fulfilling role as the activities director which allowed her to organize various events and engage with the neighbors in her community.

Betty and Robert had an incredible adventure traveling through Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  Exploring different continents and experiencing diverse cultures.  Betty was especially captivated by Paris – a city known for its beauty, culture and history. Their experience left a lasting impression on her.

Continuing her family’s legacy, Betty was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Betty was a caring and compassionate Registered Nurse working at many different venues in her lifetime while raising a family of four children.  She worked private duty when her husband was transferred to Texas with the Air Force.  She worked as a night nurse in hospitals in Texas, Colorado, and at Westminster Hospital in Southern California.  She was the Director of Nurses for Guidance Center Sanitarium and at Memorial Care Nursing Home in Southern California.

Betty’s legacy of love, creativity, and compassion will forever inspire those who were fortunate to know her.

Private services will be held at a later date.
