Barbara Ann Kaden died peacefully in Christ at her home on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the age of 90 years and six months.
Born on May 2, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of David C. Schilke and Esther E. (Schroth) Schilke. She graduated from Lutheran High School in Milwaukee in 1951 and from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois in 1955, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a minor in Biology. In June 1975, she received her Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of San Francisco.
On July 21, 1956, she married Harold R. Kaden at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They were married for 68 years.
Barbara taught in many Lutheran schools including Immanuel Lutheran School in Albuquerque, New Mexico; St. Paulus Junior High School in San Francisco; West Portal Lutheran School in San Francisco; and Town & County Lutheran School in Sacramento, where she was also Acting Principal from 1991 to 1993. From 1995 to 1996, she and her husband served as Interim Principals at St. Peter Lutheran School in Lodi.
From 1968 to 1991, she taught for San Juan Unified School District at Hemlock Elementary School in Carmichael; Earl LeGette Elementary School in Fair Oaks; Pershing Elementary School in Orangevale; and Mary Deterding Elementary School in Carmichael.
Barbara is survived by her husband Harold, daughters Kristin Kaden Dreyer (Richard Dreyer) and Laurie Kaden, and grandsons Harrison Dreyer and August Dreyer. A sister-in-law, four cousins, two nephews, and two nieces also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.
A Christian Service of Victory will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11:00 am at Town & Country Lutheran Church, 4049 Marconi Avenue, Sacramento, officiated by Rev. Matthew D. Roeglin. Friends and family are invited to attend.
Interment of ashes will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Missouri.
