Anna Benny

Anna S. Benny, age 87, passed away in Sacramento, CA on January 5, 2017. Born September, 4, 1929, she fled communist Hungary during the 1956 revolution and settled in Ithaca, NY with her then husband George. She eventually settled in Carmichael, CA. She worked at Cornell University before becoming a full-time homemaker and devoted mother. She later became a licensed cosmetologist before she retired. She was an amazing chef and baker, always making everything from scratch. She had a variety of hobbies such as needlepoint and cake decorating where her creations were meticulous and artful. Born with a green thumb, she was a gifted gardener, and was able to make everything in her garden flourish. Survivors include her daughter Mary Ann (Jim), grandson James, son George, brother Louis, sister Agnes, and many nieces and nephews. A rosary and viewing will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 12, immediately followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., both held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5751 Locust Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608. Burial will be held in private. Family and friends are welcome at the rosary, service and the reception adjacent the church immediately following the service.
