Agnes Carolyn Cumby, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, in Roseville, California, at the age of 83. Born on September 13, 1941, in Winterton, Newfoundland, Agnes filled her life with love, laughter, and a remarkable dedication to those around her.
For over 20 years, Agnes devoted herself to being a dedicated homemaker, creating a loving and nurturing environment for her family. With a heart full of kindness, she ran a successful day care center in her home, where she shared her great love of children. Her professional journey continued in telecommunications, where, for 22 years, she excelled as a customer service representative, always extending her warm personality to every interaction.
Agnes was the epitome of hospitality and joy, forever lighting up the lives of her family and friends. Known for her fabulous cooking, especially her delicious shortbread cookies, her home was always a welcoming space during the holidays, filled with laughter and the delightful scents of her culinary creations. Her spirit was unmistakable, drawing in her children's friends, who often preferred to hang out at her house.
A lover of travel, Agnes embraced adventures across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with memorable cruises enhancing her journeys. Although she resided in California, her heart always remained in Newfoundland, where she fostered deep connections with her parents, siblings, in-laws and their families. Agnes found joy in visiting local gems such as Napa and Apple Hill, as well as any beach that beckoned for exploration.
Her playful sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and caring nature endeared her to many. Whether it was stopping by with a casserole or jumping in to help a friend in need, Agnes exemplified the spirit of community. She reveled in socializing and loved attending musicals, often sharing these delightful experiences with her close-knit circle of friends and family. An animal lover at heart, she cherished even the smallest creatures, from hamsters to snakes, much to the chagrin of the boys in the family.
Agnes's proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved children: Colleen Cumby, Corinne Cumby, Jason Cumby, and Joshua Cumby; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Cumby; and her grandchildren, Duncan Cumby and Carolyn Cumby. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Ethel Frampton and Anne Hiscock, along with brother-in-law Wilson Hiscock, sister-in-law Eileen Parrott, in-laws Bill & Annie Cumby, Dick & Rita King, Joan Peddle, Frank & Alice Cumby, and Ruth Rockwood. Agnes treasured her goddaughter Glenda Frampton, as well as her close friends Jean Younge, Mervyn, & Freddie Parrott, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Agnes is preceded in death by her loving husband Roy Cumby, her parents Raymond and Marion Parrott, mother-in-law Tina Cumby, brothers William Parrott (wife Dora), Irvin Parrott (wife Lillian), Robert Parrott (wife Evelyn), Lorne Parrott, brothers- in-law Mac Frampton, Larry Peddle, and Art Rockwood, nephew Dan Frampton, along with close friends Diane Childress, Chester & Rose George, Jerry Younge, and Margaret Williams.
Agnes Carolyn Cumby leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and beautiful memories that will resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family and friends, reminding them of the indelible impact she made through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
